I wrote Declaration! while in my student teaching semester in the Plano (TX) Independent School District. When Laura Sturch, my supervising teacher at Clark High School, asked me to write a piece for her Concert Band, I happily accepted. The piece, premiered by and dedicated to the Clark Concert Band, is a celebratory and triumphant work that gives moments for each section of the ensemble to shine. The work begins with only a few forces, and gradually grows in texture and volume thoughout the duration of the piece.
