ecliptic

Saxophone Quartet [SATB]

duration: 7'35''

first performance on 4/9/19 by the Pyr Quartet for the University of Oklahoma's Spring 2019 "Composing Tomorrow" Recital.

program notes (written by Tanner Harrod)

The title of ecliptic comes from astronomy, referring to the apparent path the sun takes in the sky.  The piece revolves, no pun intended, on a chord progression beginning as quintal harmony, gradually closing in on each other to create a more dissonant and close-voiced chord than the progression originally presents. Subsequent sections come about as developments of the original material presented, ultimately concluding with a reversal of the initial progression.
